Keeping Busy

We are always keeping busy creating and this past week was no exception. 

I'm happy that my kiddos love to create.

Migration and Remembrance Day

 

How does a Pumpkin Grow?

We made a spinner to learn how the pumpkin goes from seed to fully grown.

I found the print outs online.

Below is a video of the spinner in action.

Migrating Geese

Since I live near a Conservation Area, we are seeing a lot of geese flying overhead.  

We made this mobile to show the geese flying.

We made these lovely poppy pictures to remember all those who helped make our country so great.

Colouring Sheet 

We made it into a banner.

We made these simple flying geese using a paper plate. 

I added string and a stick for flying.

Experiment

Since we were talking about migration this week and why the birds migrate, it was a good time for some hands on learning.

So I filled a dish with some water and we dropped in some Cheerios.  I asked the kids to pick a cheerio out of the water....that was what it is like for the birds to get food in the summer.

Then we put the dish with the cereal into the freezer and when it was frozen, kids tried to pick out the cereal and couldn't as it was frozen under the ice.  That was the winter and why the birds fly south where it is warm and they can still get their food.

This was an awesome activity and they all had a better understanding of why instead of me just telling them.  Some of them even went home and wanted to try the experiment again.

Let's Remember and Pets

Welcome.

The weeks are just flying by as we get closer to Christmas. 

The stores are filled with holiday cheer and my little ones are starting to anticipate the big day.....well not quite yet!

First, this week we remembered the people that helped our Country be free.

We called them the Hero Helpers.  

Since my little ones are so young and don't really understand the concept of war, that's the way I like to approach it.  They will get to know the horrors of the war soon enough, but for now I like to focus on the positive and how lucky we are to live in a free country.

Using a small paper plate, we glued on some red poppies that I cut from red paper.

They liked gluing on the black circles...good fine motor too.

So now onto our pets....

This fun activity is really simple to do.  Just a bit of paper folding.

Puppy Puppet

The kids loved making and playing with these cute little puppets.

Again, simple to create.

Paper Mouse

Here is a cute paper mouse we made.  He can sit or lay down.  

It is just a piece of paper folded into 3rds. and glued together 

I cut out the ears and tail, we added some google eyes and a pom-pom nose.

Fish Bowl

I cut out a fish bowl shape and the kids glued on some fish that they coloured.
