Fall and Lots of Squirrels

We've been super busy, as usual, creating and learning.

The kids wanted to know more about all the squirrels we see on our walk to the park so that's what we explored this month.

Keeping Busy

We are always keeping busy creating and this past week was no exception. 

I'm happy that my kiddos love to create.

So, here's what we did last week.

Counting

We made these tubes that practiced counting and number recognition.

Squirrels and Hedgehogs

 Welcome

Another busy week being outside and then creating when inside.

At this time of year, I thought we would do a theme about squirrels and hedgehogs.  

We've seen lots of squirrels but no hedgehogs, but we know they are around.

So here's what we did last week.

Squirrels

We learned about where the squirrels live and some of the food they like to eat.

We saw where the squirrels had dug holes in my garden, trying to dig up my bulbs I presume.

We used a paper cup as the body and glued on the details.

Hedgehog

This fun printable was easy to make.

Scarecrows, Corn and More

 

Hello and Welcome

It's the week after Halloween and our Fall has been unusually warm this past week with temperatures breaking long standing records.  It made it so nice to be outside with the kids enjoying the sunshine before it all passes and the cold winter sets in.

We are still celebrating the Fall theme with some fun activities.

Here's what we did this week.

Scarecrow

We used a paper plate to create our fun scarecrow.  We added the song we learned on the back.

Crows

Simple cone shaped crows of course for the scarecrow to frighten away.

Corn

We talked about why the farmers has scarecrows in their fields and made this fun corn.

Using an ink pad (you could use a shallow dish of paint) we pressed the large Lego block onto the pad and stamped  onto our corn.

Squirrel

I covered a paper towel roll with brown paper and folded down the top to create the squirrel's ears.

The kids decorated them using some dark brown paper.  

We learned this song:

Hold a peanut in your paws, wrinkle up your little nose.

Scarecrow Puzzle

My kids love puzzles, so I printed this one out, glued it onto some heavy cardboard for stability,

then the kids coloured it and we cut it into a puzzle.

Fall and Squirrels

Fall is almost here.

This week, we learned about Squirrels as we see so many of them along our walks to the park.
The kids love Fall so much and crunching in the leaves and collecting them too!

We made a cute squirrel from a paper tube and glued him onto a CD that we covered with some colourful Fall leaves.

Next, here is an acorn, number matching game.  Simple to do and fun learning as well.

Some happy acorn puppets just simply made with construction paper and a large popsicle stick for little hands.

It was also a great opportunity to talk about lots of words that start with 's'.
We also learned a new song of the week.

Some fun acorn colouring of course.

We finished off the week with making a lovely Fall leaf wreath for the door.
I textured some of the leaves using a crimper for added interest.
