Squirrels and Hedgehogs

 Welcome
Another busy week being outside and then creating when inside.
At this time of year, I thought we would do a theme about squirrels and hedgehogs.
We've seen lots of squirrels but no hedgehogs, but we know they are around.

So here's what we did last week.

Squirrels
We learned about where the squirrels live and some of the food they like to eat.
We saw where the squirrels had dug holes in my garden, trying to dig up my bulbs I presume.
We used a paper cup as the body and glued on the details.

Hedgehog
This fun printable was easy to make.

Standing Squirrels

Squirrel Mask
We pretended to be squirrels looking for some acorns.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

Nocturnal Animals

 Hello and Welcome.

This week we had such fun learning about animals that are Nocturnal.
My kids already knew what some of them were, but it was fun to learn more about them.  I think their favourite was watching the video of the bat cave that I found on YouTube.

Anyways, here was we did this week.

Bat Cave
Here is the bat cave we created.  We decorated a box then added the bats inside.
Since we are also working on number recognition, we added some numbers on the front of our bats.
It was fun to learn how the bats fold their wings over them to keep warm.

Feed the Raccoon
A big hit with my kiddos.
I printed off a picture of a raccoon and cut out the mouth.  We attached that to a box on the back.
We decorated the fish and they could feed them to the raccoon.
Below is a picture of how I attached the photo to the box.

Fox
We made this adorable little fox puppet.
We glued a popsicle stick to the bottom so he could walk.

Stinky Skunk
A simple skunk.  They did some joining up the dots at the bottom.
'PU' was our word of the day.

Hedgehog
Here is a cute printable I found.
The kids coloured it then practiced their cutting skills.
here is the printable:

How about a rainbow Raccoon to finish off the week!

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.

As the Weather Changes

I certainly don't feel ready for the weather to change this much.
We have snow on the ground.  My little ones were so excited with the change and were anxious to get out and play in it so that's what we did.
I think I need to get a new outlook about snow like they have lol.

We have been watching the geese fly south so that's how we started our creative week.
Then, we went on to talk about animals that were nocturnal.

Simple bird craft using a spoon as the head and tail.
Simply cut out the bird shape (shown here in the black), cut a small slit in the base and slide in the spoon.  These also make good birds for creating a mobile.
We glued on some circles and squares as those are shapes we are working on.

Owls
Here are some super easy little owls we made using part of a paper towel roll.
Just bend and tuck the top down to create the ears of the owl.
We talked about what owls liked to eat, how they hunted in the night and there was a lot of hooting going on in the house that day.

Little foxes.
Again, using part of a paper towel roll covered with some brownish paper.  We added the features and a pom-pom nose.  The kids did a little puppet show with them...gotta love when the creative carries over to some dramatic play too.

Sleeping Foxes
This cute template is so easy.  Just print it out and let the kids colour.  To extend this activity, you could create a little den for the fox to sleep in.
We also talked about how they are nocturnal and sleep in the day, hunt in the night.
here's the link:

Cute hedgie.
Finally, we created a cute little hedgehog.
Here are the instructions:

Well that's it for this week.
