Bugs and Butterflies

Welcome
We are totally enjoying the beautiful weather we are having here in Ontario and taking lots of opportunities to explore nature.
My kids wanted to learn more about bugs and butterflies of course, so that's what we did.

Here's what we did last week.

Ladybug
Here is a simple ladybug sitting on a flower.
The flower is a paper plate with cut edges.

Catching Ladybugs
This was a simple gluing activity.
We counted the spots on the ladybugs and the kids added the legs and antennae.

Ant Puppet
The kids coloured strips of red paper, I rolled them and we glued them onto a stick and added the legs.

Bugs
I printed out the bugs and the kids decorated them.

Bees
Here is the bee puppet and the bee picture we made.
I giggled to see how the kids personalized the bees in the picture!

Here Come the Dinosaurs

Welcome!

Another busy week gone by.
I can't believe how fast time flies some days!
We had fun learning about dinosaurs....finding out where they lived, what they ate, their names.
Carnivore and Herbivore became a much talked about subject.

So here's what we did last week.

Triceratops
This was a fun little game we made that the kids loved.

Dinosaur Finger Puppet
Here is a simple puppet just right for little fingers.

'D' Dinosaur
This was a fun little gluing activity for the letter D.

T-Rex
Just a cute little printable for playing with.

Dinosaur Egg
We learned about how dinosaurs come from an egg.
We used paper plates to make our egg and glued a small dinosaur inside.

Dinosaur Mask
Who doesn't need a dinosaur mask!

Dinosaur Bracelet
I printed out the bracelets and covered them with some plastic film for stability.

Dinosaur Bones
Here is a printable that the kids coloured, cut out and glued together.

Fossils
We had fun making some Dinosaur fossils using a simple recipe and used the plastic dinosaurs to make the impressions.  The kids loved them.

Let's Go to Space

 Welcome

Last week we had fun exploring SPACE.  Lots of talking about what it would be like to go there...what happens with no gravity....how would you eat....sleep?  They loved pretending about floating in space.
Some of the kids already knew the names of some of the planets and they learned about a few more.

So here's what we did to go into space.

Space Shuttles
I cut out the bottom shape of the shuttle and the kids decorated with stars and colouring.
We glued on a paper tube with a hole cut in the top so we could add some little toy people in the shuttle.

Blasting Off Rocket
Here is a simple cup rocket we made using cups from the Dollar Store.  I attached an elastic to the bottom to make it spring up.  You place the decorated rocket over the black cup and just push down to blast off.  They had a 'blast' playing with them too!

Astronaut
Here is a cute little astronaut we made using a CD as the base and added paper details.
When you shake him, his legs and arms wiggle.

Solar System and the Planets
A simple printout to colour and decorate.

Space Helmet Mask
Simple face mask to go to space.

We made some Moon Rocks to find on the moon.

Rocket Snack
This simple snack was so fun to make.  Cheese on the bottom, strawberries and bananas.
They blasted off right into our mouths!

Alien
Simple printout alien

Well as you can see, it was a fun filled week.
Thanks so much for coming by and visiting.

Birds

Hello
What a wonderful time of year here in Canada as Spring emerges and warmer temperatures prevail.
My little people wanted to learn more about birds and wanted to go bird watching so that's what we did....so much fun and so much learning happened.

So here's what we did this week.

Cardinals Nesting
Simple circle folded and cut to make the wings.
See here for step by step

Owl
We made this cute little owl craft by folding some brown paper to make the trunk of the tree.

Paper Plate Bird
We made these simple paper plate Robins and of course, we had to add a worm to his mouth.

Paper Birds
These are simple printouts that the kids coloured.

BIRD WATCHING DAY

Paper Tube Binoculars

Bird Watching Day was such a wonderful experience.  We took our binoculars and our bird books and headed down to the woods.  We saw or heard the birds in our books.
We heard a few that weren't in our books, so when we got home, I printed a few more off and they coloured them to add to their book.
Amazing how many of the birds they could identify.

We also saw the trilliums (wildflower of Ontario).

This was a piece of bark we found on the ground, so we turned it over.  The woodpecker had pecked holes in it and the bugs had burrowed tunnels into the bark.  So interesting.

Thanks so much for coming by and taking a look.
