Migration and Nocturnal

Wow...where does the time go??!!

The last few weeks of November just flew by as we learned about animals that Migrate and animals that were Nocturnal.  Really fun times and it always amazes me how much they remember.

So, here's what we did.

Wild Animals

 Hello

Last week, we discovered with a Wild Animals theme.

Always a favourite and more relevant as some of the kids had recently visited the zoo.

So, here's what we did last week.

Farm Life

 Welcome

We did a fun theme last week and learned about Farm Life.

The kids loved creating with farm animals which they all recognize.

We also learned about things they give us...chickens give us eggs, cows give us milk etc.

So, here's what we did.

Chickens

We used a paper plate to create our chickens.

I glued these horse shapes onto some cardboard and we used clothespins for the legs so the kids could make them gallop.

Wobble Pigs

We uses paper cups to make our pigs.  I added a paper spring inside so when you pushed down the head, they wobble.

We did some gluing on a pig outline- good fine motor picking up the paper pieces to glue on, then made a pig mask to go with it.

Dande'lion'

I printed out this lion shape and glued it onto some cardboard.  I punched holes around the outside and then the kids picked dandelions to push into the holes.  They loved it!

Let's Visit the Zoo

 Welcome

Last week was fun creating some of the animals we would see at the Zoo.

Some of my kiddos have been to the zoo, so they were excited about creating the animals they saw there.  

So here's what we did last week.

Giraffes

One of the kids favourites.

These were fun to make and then have a monkey show.

Baby Tiger

Isn't he cute and so simple to make.  I cut the pieces and the kids colours and glued him together.

Elephant

Who doesn't love a purple elephant.  One of the fav colours so we went with it.

Paper Plate Hippo

We used 2 paper plate...one for the face and one folded for the mouth.

The Zoo

I printed off the fronts and backs for our little zoo animals.  The kids coloured them and we glued them onto an old paper towel roll so they would stand up.

Polar/ Arctic Animals

Well another busy and creative week as we learned about Polar/Arctic animals.

My kiddos were anxious to create and learn about them.  We talked about how they could be camouflaged against the snow if they were white and what they liked to eat.  

So here's what we did.

These fun Polar bears were simply made with some construction paper.  

The heads were folded as to give a 3-D look...so cute and great fine motor as they had to glue on the small snowflakes.

Caribou

These funny caribou puppets were fun to colour...my kids love to colour.

Paper plate polar bear.  

My kids wanted to make another polar bear so where is what we did.  

Cut the paper plates to use for the bear shape then glued on lots of fluffy cotton.  

Arctic Fox

Such a fun and easy fox to create using paper plates.  The head was made with a half plate that I rolled and stapled together.  The nose is a pom-pom.

This is a wheel we created showing all the Polar Animals.

I didn't get a picture of it all assembled but when we put them together, it shows the animal at the top and the name in the open space below.  More fun and learning as my littles ones are starting to read and recognize letters.

Letter Tubes

Last week we did Number Tubes.

This week it was time to do some letter ones.  They really worked hard to find all the letters stickers and place them on the tube.  We made it into a game too, think of a word that starts with that letter then stick it on.

So that's it for this week.

We are moving on to 'Penguins' next week.

On the Farm

Welcome

Well, we have finished another crafty week learning about the Farm and all that the animals provide for us.  We did also talk about all the things that grow on the farm.  It is a good theme that kids can relate to.

So here's what we did this week.

Paper Plate Pig

Here is the fun pig we made using a paper plate as the base.

Silly Cows

We created these simple silly cows using a paper cone as the base.

Rocking Chicken

We created a rocking chicken that pecks at the ground eating the corn.

Fold a paper plate in half and add the simple details.

This is one of the activity/sorting games we worked on.  

Little Red Barn

We coloured the barn and glued on all the farm animals.

I just found these online to print.

Horses in the stable.

Just a simple paper craft.  I just cut the pieces and we glued them together.

Finally, of course, lots of colouring....they love to colour.
