Bugs and Butterflies

Hello there.
Another fun week for us crafting and creating.
We learned about bugs and butterflies this week.

Here's what we did.

Here is a fun little bumblebee puppet we made.
I had the pattern in my files so I'm sorry I don't have a link for it here.
We used an envelope for our puppet (easier for little hands to fit inside of), but you could also use a paper lunch bag.

Move Like a Bug Game
This was fun to play.  The kids coloured the pattern I printed out then we glued it together into a dice.  Roll the die to see what kind of movement you have to do.  They loved it!

We made a kite using a paper plate and some ribbon streamers.
We decorated it with bugs we coloured and glued them onto the plate.
When they were done, we went for a picnic in the school field and flew our kites.
They sure loved running and trying to get their kites into the air.

The kids love butterflies...who doesn't.
We have been seeing so many this time of year so we learned about the cycle of the butterfly with this fun activity.

We made butterflies using a spoon for the body.
Holding the bottom of the spoon, we made the butterfly flutter it's wings.

One of the best ways to teach concept and recognition of letters and numbers is to present this activity.  I write the name or print the numbers on a paper, add glue along the lines and the kids add the little circles.  It is an excellent, simple activity that helps develop fine motor skills, teaches colours and even numbers with counting how many dots they put on.

At the end of the week, the girls decided to make an art gallery.
I was so proud of the way they took the paper and art supplies and totally undirected, created their own little art gallery.  I think they did an excellent job considering they are only 4 and I love seeing the initiative taken by them to create!

Have a great week and glad you could pop in!
